Our consortium partner Vactech Oy has released a new educational video introducing PRV-101, an investigational vaccine designed to prevent Coxsackie B virus infections. These infections are being studied as a possible trigger of type 1 diabetes.
The video presents the evidence linking these common enteroviruses to type 1 diabetes. It also explains how PRV-101 is intended to work.
PRV-101 contains , non-infective Coxsackie B viruses which induce the production of neutralizing antibodies. These antibodies can block viral entry into cells and clear the virus before it reaches the pancreas and affect insulin-producing beta cells.
PRV-101 has completed a Phase 1 clinical trial, where it demonstrated a good safety profile. Vactech is now preparing for the next stage of clinical development.
One of ENT1DEP’s research goals is to investigate the immune responses induced by PRV-101. This work contributes to the project’s wider research into vaccines and other potential strategies for preventing enterovirus-associated type 1 diabetes.
