The PI Roberto Mallone from our partner INSERM, contributed to the discussions at the Human Islet Research Network (HIRN) Annual Meeting, held on January 13–14, 2025, in Bethesda, MD, USA.
Dr. Roberto Mallone presented:
“The ménage à trois between beta cells, T cells, and interferons,“ offering valuable insights into the complex interplay driving Type 1 Diabetes (T1D).
Key Highlights:
- The dynamic interaction between autoimmune T cells and dysfunctional beta cells in the development of Type 1 Diabetes (T1D).
- The role of interferons in creating an inflammatory environment within pancreatic islets.
- New findings on how HLA-B Class I molecules increase beta cells’ susceptibility by presenting both conventional and neo-antigenic peptides.
- This research underscored the importance of understanding immune system interactions to pave the way for more effective strategies in preventing and treating Type 1 Diabetes.
